Invitation: Field trips for local Schools
The CREATE lab at New York University (NYU), in partnership with the CHILD Lab at The Graduate Center, CUNY, is inviting local middle and high schools to visit our Greenwich Village location at 196 Mercer St.
During field trips to our lab, middle school and high school students will learn about how we conduct research in the learning sciences, about the design of games for learning, and about college in general, including a tour of the NYU campus.
Students will be invited to participate in our ongoing research, which has the goal to learn how computer games can be used to promote learning and the development of cognitive skills, what the next generation of simulations should look like, and how games, simulations, and Virtual Reality (VR) can be used for learning.
A typical program looks like this:
9:30am Arrival and Registration*
9:45 Welcome and Introductions
10:00 Presentation about Research
10:30 Research Participation (experiments, playtesting of our games)
12:00 Lunch (provided by CREATE)
12:30 Research Participation and Campus tour
1:45 Debriefing and Q&A with professors and doctoral students
*Different arrival and departure times are possible for schools who need more time for travel. We are happy to customize visits to accommodate each school’s situation.
If you are a teacher or principal interested in coming to NYU CREATE on a field trip, please contact the CREATE director, Professor Plass, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
We have IRB approval for our research from NYU, CUNY, and the NYC DOE.
