Student Researcher Positions

NYU’s Consortium for Research and Evaluation of Advanced Technology in Education (CREATE), housed in Steinhardt’s School of Culture, Education & Human Development and directed by Jan L. Plass, is seeking 1-2 highly motivated individuals to become part-time student researchers (training and travel expenses included) for Spring 2014, effective immediately. Student Researchers will work on a research project examining the design of formative assessment in games for learning and studying the use of games in NYC classrooms. Primary responsibilities are to participate in research and design meetings, to conduct classroom observations in schools located throughout the 5 NYC boroughs and Long Island, and to enter data associated with the observations. Additional responsibilities may include conducting interviews, data analyses, and preparation of presentations, reports, and manuscripts.

Requirements for the position include:
• Attend all training sessions (approx. 1 day)
• Travel to school sites in the New York City area
• Observe teachers during their classroom use of their selected games, using an observation protocol to record classroom activities related to assessment and game use
• Conduct interviews with each teacher after each observation

Qualifications for the position include:
• Strong familiarity with classroom assessment practices
• Experience conducting observations and/or interviews
• Strong interest in digital media / games and education
• Experience in qualitative data collection and analysis
• Commitment to excellence in working in our highly functioning research team
